Strengthening institutional responses to abuse
The Transparency Commission seeks to be of service to the Catholic Church by offering independent assessments of how institutions have managed and responded to cases of sexual abuse. The goal of the Commission is to analyze the past from multidisciplinary disciplines in order to offer expert guidance on implementing the highest standards for reporting and responding to claims of abuse. The ultimate goal is to help the victims through the pursuit and acknowledgment of truth and to assist the Church in transforming all of its spaces into safe and protective environments for all people, especially minors and the most vulnerable.
Learn More About Who We AreThe Pilot Project in Panama
The Transparency Commission's work began with a pilot project in the Archdiocese of Panama, assessing the handling of cases of sexual abuse between 2001 and 2025. The Commission collected data from the archives of the diocese, conducted interviews with stakeholders within the Church, and gathered testimonies outside the archdiocese, studied the socio-cultural context of the Church in Panama, and mapped media coverage.
